Now that I work at Columbia College, I see some stuff that reminds me of WAY back when I was in school.
Interestingly enough, this xkcd.com comic aptly comments on something strange I noticed in the book store.

Explain to me why we have phones now that have better displays and more power than huge computers 10 years ago, but the TI 83 Plus is still the graphing calculator of choice, and has made no technological advancements?!

Enough Said.

Our women-folk are might independent, now-a-days. The motor car has broadened horizons, shortened miles, turned night to day. We should not check their sweet self-assurance. And yet, sometime, the handsome officer and his Colt may not be there to catch his cue and save “the maiden in distress.” What then?
You, of all men, know Colt dependability and that a Colt Revolver or Automatic Pistol is safe even for “her” to handle. What will you advise your mother, sister or “the only girl” to do? Stay in the house at night? Try and do it! And even if she did stay in, a Colt protected home saves worry for the fellow who’s away-means safety for those whom we cherish. What are you going to do about a Colt for her?

You’ve probably seen the Water JetPack by Jetlev before, maybe even the Jetlev #Fail, now FlyBoard has an awesome new take on this “personal water craft.” The course to LEARN how to ride the FlyBoard is $350 so I’m guessing this “toy” will also have an insane price tag. After all, the Jetlev is around $60,000…
Chuck Stover’s Thorn Dice can be purchased from Shapeways, a rapid prototyping service that will take a design and output it in metal or plastic. A set of 6 dice costs $75 before taxes. You can get them cheaper printed in plastic but, according to Stover, they’re too light. “Stainless steel has the heft to roll correctly and feel right in your hand.” Wired posted the original article.

I went ahead and purchased this for myself.
I guess I could consider this a Christmas present, but really, it’s just AWESOME!
Basically this is just an orb that creates a Death Star ice sphere. I love it.
Normally I drink out of plastic cups, but I’ll have to use glasses to showcase my awesome Death sphere from now on!
You can buy the Death Star Ice Sphere from ThinkGeek.com for only $10! It was $16 with shipping.
Here it is in action!

Old computer games couldn’t be won.
They just got Harder and Faster until you Died.
Just like Real Life.
Google has announced Background Images on the Google Search Homepage will be decommissioned November 16th, 2012.
This is a huge bummer for me as I’ve LOVED seeing the below photograph from the Palace of Versailles in France every day.
It was just a little taste of: I know you’re stuck in an office right now Googling things,
but at one time you saw something this beautiful…
The good news is, IF you use Google Chrome I’m POSITIVE someone will create a Chrome Extension to re-create this functionality.
Update 11-12-2012: As I stated above, some folks have already made extensions to give you back your Google Background Images
Leave a comment below and I will email you when I find an extension to suit!
Google Background images are going away on November 16, 2012
Thank you for using background images. As we build a more streamlined Google Search page for everyone, we’ll no longer be able to support customization with background images. So you will no longer be able to see your background pictures starting November 16, 2012.
My background image has been set to this picture of the Palace of Versailles since Google rolled out Background Images.
